Summer Breeze Open Air is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2027, and organizers have already revealed a colossal first wave of 63 bands, along with a special orchestral performance built around three decades of festival history.
Summer Breeze 2027 will take place August 18–21, 2027, near Dinkelsbühl, Germany, where the festival has grown into one of Europe’s major annual gatherings for heavy music.
And for its 30th edition, Summer Breeze is digging into its own past.
Summer Breeze 2027 Celebrates 30 Years With Legends, Metal and an Orchestra
One of the anniversary edition’s most intriguing additions is Summer Breeze Legends & Orchestra, an exclusive performance featuring the Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra alongside guest musicians.
Rather than simply dropping an orchestra into the middle of a metal festival and hoping nobody gets impaled by a cello, the project will revisit defining songs from throughout Summer Breeze history, transforming festival anthems into a massive symphonic celebration of the event’s first three decades.
Exactly which songs and guest musicians will be involved remains to be revealed.
Considering Summer Breeze began back in 1997, there is an enormous graveyard of possibilities to excavate.
Electric Callboy Lead the First Summer Breeze 2027 Lineup
Leading the first announcement are Electric Callboy, joined by a sprawling collection of metal, rock, folk, gothic and extreme-metal acts.

And that’s only part of the initial 63-band announcement.
The lineup already jumps gleefully between melodic death metal, black metal, power metal, folk metal, gothic rock and modern heavy music, suggesting Summer Breeze isn’t planning to celebrate 30 years by staring nostalgically into the rearview mirror.
Edguy Set for an Emotional Farewell
One name in that announcement carries considerably more weight.
Edguy have announced what is being billed as an emotional farewell concert at the 2027 festival, giving their Summer Breeze appearance an entirely different gravity.
For longtime fans of Tobias Sammet and company, that alone could turn the anniversary festival into a pilgrimage.
After decades of albums, tours and gloriously oversized power-metal theatrics, the prospect of Edguy saying goodbye at Summer Breeze adds a bittersweet chapter to a festival otherwise built around celebration.
Meanwhile, Airbourne Got a Solar Eclipse
As if Summer Breeze needed additional help from the universe in creating atmosphere, the 2027 announcement arrived during the current festival edition, which had already produced one hell of an opening-night visual.
Australian rock wrecking crew Airbourne performed while a partial solar eclipse unfolded overhead, giving fans on the festival grounds an accidental celestial light show.
Because apparently ordinary stage production wasn’t dramatic enough.
You can spend months planning pyro, lighting rigs and giant video screens. Sometimes the sky simply decides it wants a production credit.
Summer Breeze 2027 Tickets Go on Sale August 17
The official presale for the 30th-anniversary edition of Summer Breeze Open Air begins Monday, August 17, 2026, at 4:00 PM CET.
With 63 bands already confirmed, Edguy preparing an emotional farewell, Electric Callboy leading the first wave and the Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra being enlisted to resurrect three decades of Summer Breeze history, the festival isn’t treating its 30th birthday quietly.
Nor should it.
Thirty years after Summer Breeze first opened its gates in 1997, the festival is preparing to celebrate its history the only sensible way:
Turn everything up.
