Underdark Death of a Toolmaker: New Black Metal Single

UK black metal outfit Underdark have released “Death of a Toolmaker” through Church Road Records, offering another look at their forthcoming album O Come Forth Annihilation, due November 6. The band’s collision of black metal intensity, post-hardcore pressure and atmospheric passages is a fitting vehicle for a song aimed squarely at political hypocrisy.“Our aim with Death Of A Toolmaker was to construct the heaviest, most relentless, and unforgiving track we’ve written to date.

Lyrically, I wrote about the rhetorical tactics politicians use in order to gain access to power under the guise of being a “man of the people”, only to immediately enact repugnantly cruel domestic and foreign policy at the whims of the billionaire class.” – Abi Vasquez [vocals]

Underdark’s sound moves between black metal, post-rock and post-hardcore, using shifts in atmosphere and vocal intensity rather than staying within one genre’s boundaries. On “Death of a Toolmaker,” that contrast has a pointed subject: the gap between politicians’ public promises and the policies they enact once in power. The single arrives ahead of a short November run of UK shows.

Upcoming tour dates:
20/11 – Kingston @ The Fighting Cocks
21/11 – Birmingham @ The Flapper
22/11 – Plymouth @ The Junction
