Norwegian Folk-Rock Pioneers Release New Single “Mi Jord”

September 8, 2026

GÅTE, the Norwegian folk-rock band redefining tradition on their own terms, have today released “Mi Jord,” via Season of Mist, accompanied by an official visualizer. The track is the third single from Sigil, the band’s forthcoming album and first release for Season of Mist, out September 25th.

Norwegian for “My Earth,” the song marks the album’s emotional turning point. Southern, northern, eastern, and western currents sweep across land and sea like the final breath of something vast and maternal withdrawing. There is no judgment here, no accusation, no apocalypse, only a quiet departure, as the closing lines put it: “Eit siste pust der ho slapp og for / Svann i hvelven med vind frå nord.” Hurdy-gurdy and mandola move against uncompromising guitar and austere electronic texture, holding industrial weight and quiet dignity in the same breath.

“Mi Jord” sits at the album’s culmination, the point where Sigil‘s procession through enchantment, hunger, and mortality gives way to surrender, one track before the record’s closing turn toward renewal. Sigil was recorded at MagnuStudio and Øra Studio and produced by Kristian Fanavold Tvedt and Magnus Børmark, the pair who have steered the band’s sound since their 2017 return.

Gåte are one of the most distinct bands to come out of Norway. The band have topped the Norwegian charts, won a Norwegian Grammy and represented Norway in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. Now, they are expanding their groundbreaking mix of Nordic folk and modern rock on Sigil.
