Entheos “Undone” has arrived as the second single from the progressive metal outfit’s forthcoming fourth studio album, Empty On The Inside, set for release October 23 via Metal Blade Records. The new track is accompanied by an official music video directed by Malcolm Pugh, continuing the band’s rollout following July single “Golden Crown.”
The forthcoming record follows 2023’s Time Will Take Us All and finds Entheos deliberately pushing against the increasingly polished character of modern metal production. The band has described Empty On The Inside as a statement piece built around the raw energy of 1990s rock and metal, with an emphasis on authentic performances and allowing the individual personalities of the musicians to remain audible rather than sanding everything into digital perfection.
That philosophy comes with an expanded collaborative lineup. Vocalist Chaney Crabb and multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis are joined on the album by Fallujah guitarist Scott Carstairs and Allegaeon guitarist Michael Stancel. The combination gives Entheos another formidable collection of players while allowing the band to explore heavier, progressive and increasingly melodic territory.
Empty On The Inside was produced by Mark Lewis, whose extensive metal credits include The Black Dahlia Murder, Fallujah and Whitechapel, and mastered by Justin Sturtz at Sterling Sound. Zac Shiffer created the album artwork.
The ten-track record also includes a notable guest appearance from Michael Lessard of The Contortionist on “Tomblight.” Other tracks include “Hell Is A Part Of Me,” “Hollow,” “Call My Name,” “Pale Faith,” “Never Let Me Go” and closing track “The Earth Will Move.”
“Undone” arrives at an interesting point in Entheos’ evolution. The band has long operated in the technically demanding end of extreme metal, but the stated approach behind Empty On The Inside suggests virtuosity isn’t the only objective this time around. The emphasis on stronger hooks, melody and less clinically polished performances points toward a record designed to retain the band’s complexity while giving the songs themselves more room to hit.
For a band already known for technical firepower, that makes Empty On The Inside one of the more intriguing heavy releases waiting in the wings this fall.
