Dark black metal entity HULDER has unveiled “View From Nemeton,” the first single and accompanying video from the forthcoming full-length album Verbolgen, set for release on August 7 via 20 Buck Spin in North America and Season of Mist worldwide.
Serving as the opening chapter in the album’s campaign, “View From Nemeton” offers an early glimpse into what is being described as HULDER’s most expansive and fully realized work to date.
“Captured on analog mediums in the forests of the Pacific Northwestern landscape and woven together by Liana Rakijian and Hulder, ‘View From Nemeton’ serves as a glimpse from the eye of the otherworld,” the project states.
Musically, the track balances HULDER’s trademark black metal ferocity with a more ceremonial and atmospheric approach. Lyrically, it centers on a sacred gathering place within the otherworld where the living and the dead converge.
Driven by layered riffing, haunting melodies, and the recurring refrain of “Bone to Bone / Limb to Limb / Blood to Blood,” the song gradually unfolds into passages accented by hurdy-gurdy and keys, expanding its ritualistic atmosphere.
Verbolgen marks HULDER’s third full-length album and represents a notable evolution in the project’s sound. While rooted in the raw, solitary spirit that established HULDER’s reputation, the album embraces a broader sonic palette through the incorporation of folk instrumentation, layered arrangements, and expanded collaboration.
Longtime live contributor Necreon plays a greater creative role throughout the record, while additional performances from Keld on hurdy-gurdy and keyboards, as well as Ianuaria on flute, further deepen the album’s connection to folklore, ancestral memory, and pre-Christian traditions. Lyrically, Verbolgen draws from themes of heritage, nature, and spiritual sovereignty, with passages delivered in English, Flemish, and Proto-Germanic.
The album also features performances from both live drummer Vapula and Vrolok of Aeternus, creating a dynamic rhythmic foundation that shifts between blistering black metal aggression and slower, ritualistic passages.
