Katywentmissing – At The Hands of Machines Song Review

January 16, 2026

Written By Lindon Faynes

The recent Myspace revival has shown just how underappreciated and often undermined that era truly was in the wider metal scene.

There was plenty of heart and passion put forth but its youthful no chaos drove off the old guard, metal militants & tastemakers in droves.

Yes, the scene kid imagery was pretty embarrassing especially what with “ROFLMAO”, “PC4PC” and the whole crunkcore/scene rap crossovers BUT with any music, the image should always take 2nd place.

Which it does in the case of these Texan newcomers. A quick 4 count-in with the obligatory tin can snare and these guys are straight into it with the chug and hammer-on riffs whilst their designated vocalist screams, squeals and growls inexpressibly on top.

Not too far in we’re faced with fast paced melody tinged harmonies before hitting the first major breakdown section – afterwards the song divulges into a very Gothenburg melodeath/metalcore style interlude before hitting major breakdown section #2.

Whilst formulaic they do split the breakdown up with some very All Shall Perish-esque technical fluttery before ending the song on one final breakdown.

Not a crazy lot happening on this song but what they’re doing still works, not obnoxiously heavy nor melodramatically melodious – they mix the styles well and are very much enjoyable.

Having a quick dive through the band’s short catalogue projects a niche band with plenty of potential to grow.

At the current time, Katywentmissing are up there with their contemporaries Thus Spoke Zarathustra and Destroy All! Humans in being a pretty decent nostalgia/homage Myspace band who’s influences are very much forefront (All Shall Perish, A Breath Before Surfacing & Salt the Wound).

I dig the song and if you’re a fan of the bands I’ve compared KWM to; you’ll find some form of enjoyment here. Keeping my eye on these guys for sure.
