Sunn O))) are stepping back into the void, this time under the banner of Sub Pop. After announcing their signing with the Seattle institution last year, the legendary drone-metal duo have officially unveiled their next chapter: a new self-titled full-length, a towering new song, and an extensive North American tour.

The album, Sunn O))), arrives April 3 and marks the band’s first studio LP in seven years, following 2019’s twin monoliths Life Metal and Pyroclasts. The record was co-produced by Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson alongside longtime collaborator Brad Wood, and recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Washington State, an environment that left a tangible imprint on the sessions.

“The tracking room had these huge windows looking out into the trees,” O’Malley explains. “We could step outside, hike, be surrounded by forest. That connection to the outdoors became part of the process.”

The first official glimpse into the album comes via “Glory Black,” a ten-minute closer that stretches Sunn O)))’s signature extremity into something both crushing and starkly elegant.

While it’s the album’s opening statement to the world, it follows a quieter preview dropped late last year: a 12” release featuring “Eternity’s Pillars,” “Raise the Chalice,” and “Reverential.”

For Anderson, the band’s longevity comes down to motion, never stasis. “It’s always changing,” he says of his creative partnership with O’Malley. “There’s always movement. Forward, sideways, backward, it doesn’t matter. That evolution is what keeps this band alive and meaningful for me.”

The album will be released worldwide April 3rd 2026. Tickets on sale January 16th 2026 at 19:AM local time.

Alongside the album announcement, Sunn O))) have confirmed a spring North American tour, with the first leg launching April 1 in Phoenix and wrapping April 19 in Omaha.

Stops include Austin, New Orleans, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Montreal, Chicago, and more, with additional dates expected to be revealed soon. Notably absent (for now): New York City, though the tour artwork hints that more locations are still to come.

Tickets for the announced dates go on sale this morning, Friday January 16th at 10 a.m. local time.

Cloaks ready. Amplifiers humming. Sunn O))) are back.
