US death metal veterans Monstrosity have unleashed their crushing new single, “The Atrophied,” taken from the upcoming album Screams From Beneath The Surface, set for release March 13 via Metal Blade Records.
Marking the band’s first full-length in seven years, the record finds Monstrosity sharpening their signature fusion of technical precision and unrelenting aggression while pushing deeper into cinematic extremity. Led by founding drummer and primary songwriter Lee Harrison, the revitalized lineup includes longtime guitarist Matt Barnes, returning original bassist Mark Van Erp, and vocalist Ed Webb (ex-Massacre), whose guttural intensity injects new ferocity into the band’s sound.
“The Atrophied,” the second single from the album and the first track written during the sessions, delivers a relentless journey through blasting rhythms, spiraling riffs, and dynamic structural shifts that embody the band’s classic death metal identity while expanding its emotional scope.
Harrison explains that the track was designed to capture every hallmark of Monstrosity’s sound from explosive drum passages and intricate rhythmic turns to Webb’s commanding vocal performance and chaotic melodic guitar work.
Barnes adds that the song evolved into something unexpected during the writing process, ultimately feeling closer to a condensed epic than a traditional death metal track, combining complexity with direct, uncompromising intensity.
Recorded across Audiohammer Studios and the legendary Morrisound Studios, Screams From Beneath The Surface was produced with Jason Suecof and Jim Morris, blending modern production clarity with the classic Florida death metal atmosphere that helped define the genre.
The album artwork, created by artist Timbul Cahyono, was crafted entirely by hand without AI assistance, reflecting the raw authenticity at the core of the band’s approach.
The album will be released on CD, digital platforms, and multiple vinyl variants including gray marble, orange smoke, luminous orange marbled, silver black splatter, lilac blackdust, and standard 180g black editions.
Monstrosity will support the release with the Screams Across Europe Tour 2026, joined by Bio-Cancer, Reject The Sickness, and Deadwood.
