Lacuna Coil Release “Fragile XX” and SWARM Remix to Celebrate 20 Years of Karmacode

October 21, 2026

Written By Lucien Drake

Twenty years after Karmacode helped define a pivotal chapter in their career, Italian metal veterans Lacuna Coil are revisiting the album’s legacy with a new double single that connects two distinct eras of their music.

Released October 21 through Century Media Records, the double single pairs “Fragile XX,” a reimagined version of the 2006 track “Fragile,” with a SWARM remix of “I Wish You Were Dead” from the band’s 2025 album Sleepless Empire.

The release arrives alongside an official lyric video for “Fragile XX,” offering fans a new interpretation of a song that has remained part of Lacuna Coil’s live history for two decades.

Lacuna Coil Revisit Karmacode With “Fragile XX”

Originally released in 2006, Karmacode marked an important period in Lacuna Coil’s evolution, bringing together the band’s gothic metal foundations, heavier guitar arrangements, electronic textures, and the contrasting vocal styles of Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro.

Rather than simply remastering the original recording, Lacuna Coil have revisited “Fragile” to reflect their current musical identity.

For Ferro, the decision carries significance beyond the album’s anniversary.

“‘Fragile’ has always been a live favorite,” the vocalist explained in the official announcement.

He recalled that the band began performing the song before Karmacode was released and described its message as one of accepting vulnerability without surrendering to adversity.

Reworking a familiar song also presented creative challenges, particularly for bassist and principal songwriter Marco “Maki” Coti-Zelati.

Nevertheless, Ferro explained that the band approached the new recording as a tribute to the original composition and the album that introduced it.

The result, according to Ferro, captures the sound of Lacuna Coil in 2026 while preserving the song’s longstanding place in their catalog.

SWARM Reimagines “I Wish You Were Dead”

The second track brings the anniversary celebration into more recent territory.

Electronic and metalstep producer SWARM has created a remix of “I Wish You Were Dead,” originally released on Lacuna Coil’s tenth studio album, Sleepless Empire, in February 2025.

SWARM, who has followed the Italian band since the mid-2000s, described Karmacode as an influential album in the development of his musical taste.

The producer explained that he approaches remix projects selectively, particularly when working with musicians whose original material he personally admires.

His intention was to preserve the identity of Lacuna Coil’s composition while introducing a different electronic perspective.

The pairing highlights two sides of the band’s history: a reinterpretation of a twenty-year-old recording by Lacuna Coil themselves and an outside producer’s approach to one of their more recent songs.

From Comalies XX to Sleepless Empire

This is not Lacuna Coil’s first experience revisiting material from their earlier catalog.

In 2022, the band released Comalies XX, a complete reimagining of their influential 2002 album Comalies.

Instead of presenting the original recordings with updated production, Lacuna Coil reconstructed the material through the heavier sound and arrangements they had developed over the intervening decades.

That creative process preceded Sleepless Empire, released in 2025 through Century Media Records.

The eleven-track album continued the band’s exploration of darker, contemporary metal arrangements while maintaining the vocal interplay between Scabbia and Ferro.

With “Fragile XX,” Lacuna Coil once again return to their history without treating the original recording as something that must remain untouched.

Lacuna Coil Announce 2027 European Tour With The Halo Effect

Following the anniversary release, Lacuna Coil will return to European stages in February and March 2027 as special guests on The Halo Effect’s upcoming tour.

Finnish melodic death metal group Omnium Gatherum will also appear on the bill.

The itinerary begins February 18 in Malmö, Sweden, and concludes March 21 in Stockholm, with stops throughout Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Finland.

Lacuna Coil are also scheduled to perform at South Korea’s Hero Rock Festival in December 2026 and Brazil’s Bangers Open Air in April 2027.

“Fragile XX” and “I Wish You Were Dead” (SWARM Remix) are available now through digital streaming platforms.

The release celebrates two decades of Karmacode while bringing together material from the band’s past and present.

For longtime listeners, it offers another opportunity to revisit an established Lacuna Coil composition. For newer fans introduced through Sleepless Empire, it provides a connection to an earlier chapter of the band’s catalog.
