Iron Maiden Shares Emotional Tribute For Paul Di’Anno

The metal community is still coming to terms with the passing of former Iron Maiden frontman Paul Di’Anno, who died at home at the age of 66. Despite his ongoing health issues, the news of his death earlier this week has left many in shock.

Iron Maiden has issued a statement expressing their condolences and responding to this sudden loss. The statement includes comments from bassist Steve Harris:

“Monday 21st October 2024

“We are all deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Paul Di’Anno earlier today. Paul’s contribution to Iron Maiden was immense and helped set us on the path we have been travelling as a band for almost five decades. His pioneering presence as a frontman and vocalist, both on stage and on our first two albums, will be very fondly remembered not just by us, but by fans around the world.

“‘It’s just so sad he’s gone,’ comments Steve Harris. ‘I was in touch with him only recently as we texted each other about West Ham and their ups and downs. At least he was still gigging until recently, it was something that kept him going, to be out there whenever he could. He will be missed by us all. Rest in peace mate.’

“We were very grateful to have had the chance to catch up a couple of years ago and to spend time with him once more. On behalf of the band, Rod and Andy, and the whole Iron Maiden team, we extend our deepest sympathies to Paul’s family and close friends. Rest In Peace Paul.”

Paul Di’Anno, the iconic voice behind Iron Maiden’s first two albums, Iron Maiden and Killers, was a member of the band from 1978 to 1981. During that time, he delivered unforgettable performances on tracks like “Phantom of the Opera,” “Murders in the Rue Morgue,” and “Wrathchild,” earning lasting admiration from metal fans.

After his tenure with Iron Maiden, Di’Anno fronted Praying Mantis from 1989 to 1990 and Battlezone from 1985 to 1998, before launching a solo career in 1997. His most recent work was an album released with his latest project, Warhorse, this past July.

At Metal Lair, we extend our deepest condolences to Di’Anno’s friends, family, and former bandmates. He will always be remembered.
