Emerging from the storm-lashed coastlines of Brighton, UK, Adur are set to release their highly anticipated debut album, We Fail to Love Ourselves, 29th August [self-released]. A visceral and emotionally charged journey through post-metal, hardcore, doom, and sludge, the album signals the arrival of a formidable new force in the UK heavy underground.
Formed by seasoned veterans from revered acts such as Grave Lines, Aerosol Jesus, Johnny Truant, and Sea Bastard, Adur blend glacial riffs, caustic vocal fury, and moments of aching vulnerability into music that is both devastating and transformative. Their sound draws inspiration from the desolate beauty of their namesake, the River Adur, capturing a sonic landscape as bleak as it is breathtaking.
We Fail to Love Ourselves is an album steeped in pain, disillusionment, and ultimately, fragile hope. Themes of self-loathing, addiction, loneliness, abandonment, mental health struggles, and toxic societal systems pulse through every track. Yet, beneath the weight of despair, there’s an undercurrent of resilience and emotional clarity.
“The title says it all,” the band explains. “This album explores the human condition—the struggle to love and care for ourselves in a world that often feels indifferent. But as with any art, we want listeners to draw their own meaning from it.”
Produced by Wayne Adams (Petbrick) and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate), We Fail to Love Ourselves features guest appearances from Abi (Underdark) on the title track and Dan (Helpless) on “Permanence”—adding further emotional depth to an already potent record.
For fans of Botch, Converge, Norma Jean, Deftones, Deafheaven, Gaza, and Mastodon, Adur deliver a sound that is expansive, oppressive, and undeniably human. Their live performances have already earned a reputation for intensity and emotional rawness, and this debut is sure to amplify that acclaim.
