February 1, 2025

Welcome to Metal Lair’s Seven Deadly Songs weekly feature where we curate music from the past and the present for your listening pleasure.

Aborted – The Pain Will Be Exquisite

Death metal titans ABORTED have just dropped a ferocious new video for their latest single, The Pain, Will Be Exquisite! This blistering track, originally recorded during the sessions for their critically praised 2024 album Vault of Horrors, serves as an unreleased bonus cut that easily rivals the savage intensity of the songs that made the final tracklist. Packed with relentless riffs, punishing blast beats, and their signature horror-infused brutality, this song proves that no ABORTED track is left behind without good reason. Get ready for another vicious auditory assault!

JINJER – Duél

JINJER continue their unstoppable rise with Duél, their highly anticipated fifth album, dropping February 7 via Napalm Records. The title track showcases everything that makes the Ukrainian powerhouse stand out—technical brilliance, unpredictable grooves, and Tatiana Shmayluk’s jaw-dropping vocal range. Balancing brutal heaviness with intricate melodies, Duél is both ferociously complex and effortlessly catchy, proving once again why JINJER remain one of modern metal’s most exciting forces.

Behemoth – The Shit Ov God

Behemoth have returned with The Shit ov God, the blistering title track from their upcoming album, and it just might be their most controversial anthem yet. Packed with crushing riffs and venomous proclamations, the track sees Nergal delivering lines like “Eat my flesh! Drink my blood! I am the shit of God!” A direct challenge to religious theology. The chorus spells out “IESUSJHS,” a twisted reinterpretation of Jesus’ name, reinforcing the song’s unapologetically defiant tone. With this latest offering, Behemoth prove once again that their reign of unholy terror is far from over.

Sakis Tolis -The Fall of the Tyrants

Sakis Tolis, the mastermind behind Rotting Christ, is no stranger to prolific output, and his solo work is no exception. His debut album, Among the Fires of Hell, released in March, further cements his signature sound—one that longtime fans will instantly recognize. Blurring the lines between his solo work and Rotting Christ, the album raises the question: does Tolis have more to say beyond his already vast body of work? The Fall of the Tyrants, from his upcoming album, was written during the isolating lockdowns, channeling that period’s intensity into his unmistakable brand of dark, defiant metal.

Dream Theater – Midnight Messiah

With their 16th studio album Parasomnia dropping in just over two weeks, progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER have released another preview of what’s to come. Their latest track, Midnight Messiah, running nearly eight minutes, is now streaming on all major platforms. Notably, it marks drummer Mike Portnoy’s first lyrical contribution since 2009. Accompanying the release is a tour diary music video, directed by Mike Leonard and featuring footage from their recent European tour. Portnoy hinted at lyrical Easter eggs referencing past works, adding another layer for longtime fans to uncover. Parasomnia arrives February 7, 2025, via InsideOut Music, marking Portnoy’s long-awaited return to the band’s discography.

Wrath of Logarious – Keeper of The Spectral Legion

Wrath of Logarius are carving out their own domain of formless black metal. Their debut album, Crown of Mortis, cements their reign, blending ferocious blast beats, mournful melodies, and bone-chilling atmosphere into a sound as unpredictable as their namesake. Following their viral rise and 2023’s Necrotic Assimilation EP, the band returns with a relentless, otherworldly song, Keeper if The Spectral Legion invoking cosmic horrors, and pushing black metal into uncharted territory. With Crown of Mortis Wrath of Logarius don’t just expand the genre, they rewrite its rules.

Jonathan Hulten – Riverflame

Jonathan Hultén’s mesmerizing new album, Eyes of the Living Night, is out today, hailed as his finest solo work yet. Building on 2020’s Chants From Another Place, the album blends folk, rock, and ethereal melodies, drawing inspiration from artists like Nick Drake and Chelsea Wolfe. To mark the release, Hultén has shared a stunning video for Riverflame, filmed in Kollerud, Sweden. The track reflects on life’s fleeting nature, urging listeners to embrace the present and create fearlessly. Recorded at Stockholm’s Chanting Studios with co-producer Ola Ersfjord, Eyes of the Living Night is an immersive, dreamlike journey through sound and emotion.
