Since their formation in 2006, Ingested has been a relentless force in the UK death metal scene, known for their guttural brutality, punishing breakdowns, and uncompromising work ethic. At the core of this beast are founding members Lyn Jeffs (drums) and Sean Hynes (guitar/backing vocals), whose shared vision has carried the band through nearly two decades of carnage.
Now, in 2025, Ingested enters a bold new era, reloaded and redefined with a powerhouse new lineup that’s breathing fresh fire into their signature slam death metal sound.
Leading the charge is Josh Davies, the band’s new vocalist and former frontman of Monasteries and Malice. Known for his fierce vocal range and raw stage energy, Josh Davies’ joining Ingested marks a pivotal turning point for the group. He’s no stranger to the ban,d having toured as part of their crew for years, Davies already feels like blood. His transition from behind the scenes to front and center is seamless, feral, and damn near flawless.
Also sharpening the blade is Andrew Virrueta (The Faceless, Interloper) on guitar and backing vocals. For the past 18 months, Virrueta has brought technical brilliance and dynamic riff work that has deepened the band’s already brutal sound. His influence is felt in every crushing groove and calculated chaos.
On bass, Thomas O’Malley completes the sonic arsenal. After holding down the low end during multiple tours, O’Malley officially steps into the role with precision, aggression, and a deep connection to the band’s evolving identity.
To mark this new era, Ingested has unleashed “Altar of Flesh,”a blistering single that nods to their early roots while showcasing the next level musicianship of the new Ingested lineup. It’s a warning shot and a promise. This is not a reboot. This is an evolution of slam death metal from a band that refuses to be caged by their past.
To dive into this rebirth, Metal Lair’s Tom Wilke caught up with drummer Lyn Jeffs for an exclusive conversation about the band’s transformation, the energy behind The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams, and how adding Josh Davies to Ingested has reignited the fire. From tour tales to new creative chemistry, Jeffs opens up about what it takes to survive and thrive in the ever brutal world of extreme metal.
As Lyn Jeffs made clear, this isn’t a passing phase or experimental side quest this is Ingested 2.0, and they’re locked in. With Josh Davies now fronting Ingested, and the full force of The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams behind them, the band is charging into 2025 with sharpened teeth and zero compromises. If Altar of Flesh is just the beginning, the rest of the album promises to leave a crater in the landscape of modern UK death metal. Get ready because Ingested isn’t just back. They’re about to bury the weak.
