According to AP News Brad Arnold, the lead singer, founding member and voice of American rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47 after a battle with cancer, the band announced on Saturday.
Arnold was diagnosed in May 2025 with stage 4 kidney cancer (clear cell renal carcinoma) that had spread to his lungs, a condition he publicly shared with fans and that forced the band to cancel its summer tour.
In a statement shared on the band’s social media, 3 Doors Down said Arnold passed away “peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by loved ones,” including his wife Jennifer and family, following his courageous battle with the illness.
Arnold helped form 3 Doors Down in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi, and was the band’s frontman throughout its rise to success. He wrote the band’s breakout hit “Kryptonite” while still in high school, a song that became a defining anthem of early-2000s rock.
Over more than two decades, Arnold’s songwriting and voice helped the group score multiple hits, including “When I’m Gone” and “Here Without You,” and earn Grammy nominations while shaping mainstream rock with emotionally direct lyrics and melodies that connected with fans worldwide.
In their tribute, the band described Arnold not only as a talented musician but also as a kind and generous person whose music and spirit resonated deeply with fans.
Arnold’s legacy lives on through the band’s extensive catalog and the impact his work had on a generation of listeners.
