ARCHSPIRE ‘Return To Prison Island’ Australian Tour January 28th 2026 with guests ABORTED and ORGANECTOMY At THE TRIFFID, in Brisbane Australia
The night at The Triffid felt unhinged in the best way. From groove-heavy slam to blistering technical death metal, Archspire’s Return To Prison Island tour stop in Brisbane delivered chaos, humor, and neck-wrecking precision without a single lull.
The gig turned out to be far more fun than expected. One of those nights where the crowd, the bands, and the chaos all click at once.
Organectomy brought a stage presence reminiscent of Disentomb: relaxed, no-frills, and absolutely crushing. They opened with heavy death metal.
The New Zealand slam outfit leaned hard into groove-heavy brutality, the kind of set built for neck damage rather than theatrics. Nothing flashy, just dense, punishing riffs that hit exactly where they’re supposed to.
Aborted followed with a brutal set. The band delivered a performance with high energy from vocalist Sven de Caluwé who owned the crowd with humor and at one point initiating “gym” antics in the pit, making the show an exciting performance.
The Aborted set sits in slightly fuzzier territory memory wise. One of those “I know it ruled, but I need to verify the details” situations.
With lineups like this, the lines blur fast. Either way, the momentum never dipped.
Then there was Archspire, who completely owned the room. Their set was relentless, blistering speed, sharp tempo changes, and surgical precision that never felt sterile.
Archspire delivered a highly technical, fast-paced performance, featuring favorites like “Involuntary Doppelgänger” and “Remote Tumour Seeker“
Frontman Oli Peters balanced technical extremity with nonstop self-deprecating humor, cracking jokes between songs and keeping the energy loose without breaking the intensity.
Highlights included inflatable pool toys flying through the pit, a bubble machine mid-set (because why not), and a running gag about how the tour came together punctuated by a joke so absurd it landed perfectly in the chaos of the moment.
By the end of the night, Archspire had pulled two audience members onstage for a shoey (yes, the Australian tradition), sparing themselves and fully committing to the bit.
It was fast, ridiculous, brutally tight, and genuinely memorable. The kind of show that reminds you why live metal still thrives on unpredictability.
Definitely a must see concert if you’re a fan of technical, slam, death metal. Photos and video footage are below.
