Chairmaker Release First Single ‘Ratlicker’ From Debut Album ‘Leviathan Carcass’

It gives us great pleasure to introduce you to Chairmaker, the grindcore brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Neil Erskine.

Pure, visceral, unrelenting grindcore is the best way to quickly sum up the sonics of Chairmaker. Built on the frustrations of reactionism and the lack of critical thinking that occupies the online political landscape, it made the most sense for Chairmaker to sound the way it does. Grindcore has always been the outlet for politics within extreme music, choosing to steer away from fictional horrors and focus instead on the ones that are an everyday reality for some.

The debut album ‘Leviathan Carcass’ (out November 14th) is the perfect soundtrack to the political discourse happening around the world. In its sub 15 minute length it captures the feeling of a pressure cooker about to explode. Get your first glimpse of it today with the lead single ‘Ratlicker‘. Debut album ‘Leviathan Carcass‘ out November 14th

Chairmaker is the grindcore brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Neil Erskine. Fuelled by the perils of the late capitalist society we inhabit, Neil has been able to craft a fierce sound as a solo outfit.

Prior to Chairmaker, Neil was a member of the blackened-grind/hardcore band Chronocide who released their debut LP ‘The Solitude of Man’ in 2010 via FETO Records (the independent label founded by Shane Embury and Mick Kenney). Their sophomore effort ‘Meditations’ followed in 2015 via Apocalyptic Witchcraft. Neil is a stalwart of the UK extreme metal scene, playing in numerous bands and also being heavily involved in booking/organising of the prestigious Damnation Festival from 2009-2016. This music is simply in his DNA and having a creative output is a must, hence the need for Chairmaker to come into existence.

Pure, visceral, unrelenting grindcore is the best way to quickly sum up the sonics of Chairmaker. The debut album ‘Leviathan Carcass’ is the perfect soundtrack to the political discourse happening around the world. In its sub 15 minute length it captures the feeling of a pressure cooker about to explode.  The closing track ‘Half a Puppy’ opens with the sound-byte “I think we’re all feeling some tension”, which rings true for most people alive today.

Neil Erskine does not talk about politics solely for the purpose of it being paired with a creative outlet. Outside of music he has been a university lecturer focussed on socialisation, politics and perceptions of the past, and labour relations and decolonisation. The themes on the debut Chairmaker release are ones that are close to the creator, and have been thought on at length before being jotted down as lyrics to occupy the music, which makes this album as honest as it is intense.

‘Leviathan Carcass’ is set for release on November 14th and will wet the appetite of all grind and extreme music fans. The first glimpse of the record will be the lead single ‘Ratlicker’ which will be out on September 17th.
